One of the best ways to enjoy fresh strawberries this season is in a fresh strawberry margarita. This perfect drink is one of my favorite things because of the sweet strawberry flavor and red-pinkish hue. What an amazing seasonal drink.
Fresh is Best
We’re really lucky to get the fresh fruit here in California. There are so many strawberry farms and you can pick your own. We even have a Strawberry Festival!
So for this strawberry margarita recipe, I start with only fresh strawberries, cut off the leaves and freeze them whole at least 4 hours before . Of course, the limes are freshly squeezed too. Then the simple syrup is just equal amounts of water and sugar simmered together. At this point you can certainly add mint leaves to the syrup for a slight minty flavor. When it comes to tequila, I prefer using blanco or silver which contains 100% agave. Depending on how sweet the strawberries are, you may have to adjust the sweetness to your taste using the remaining syrup.
